Students and Alumni Celebrating 20 Years of M State
Throughout 2023 Fall semester, watch for Spartans doing Acts of Kindness in the community. As we celebrate Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s 20th Anniversary, current students and alumni are invited to participate in Acts of Kindness.
It is easy to be involved!
How to Participate:
- Sign up for one or more of the Acts of Kindness events listed below (click on the event name to be taken to the sign-up page). Be sure to take pictures and include #SpartanActsofKindness when posting!
- If you or your team is already involved in community service, take a picture and post it with #SpartanActsofKindness!
Students who participate in one of the events listed below will receive an M State t-shirt. Be sure to wear the t-shirt when you are doing the Acts of Kindness! And did we say, take pictures?! #SpartanActsofKindness
Kindness Events:
Flag set up and tear down. There are several dates throughout the fall in which veterans and volunteers set up hundreds of American Flags around the community. This is an activity you can sign up for as an individual or grab a couple of friends to also sign up. Once you have signed up, you will be contacted close to the date of the event to find out where to meet. Set-up is from 7 – 8 am, and tear down is from 4:30 -5:30 pm on the following dates:
- September 4th, Labor Day
- September 15th, POW/MIA
- October 9th, Columbus Day
- November 11th, Veterans Day
United Way Weekend Feeding Backpacks. Stuff backpacks with food for school children to take home over the weekend. This is an activity you can sign up for individually or grab a couple of friends to also sign up. Stuffing happens from 9 – 10:30 am on Tuesdays at the United Way Offices, 120 E. Washington Ave., Fergus Falls, MN.
Reading to Elementary Students. Join a member of the Otter Risers Kiwanis Club to read to an elementary classroom. Once the book is read, the Kiwanis Club donates it to the school. This is an activity to be done individually. Reading times are from 10 -10:30 am on Thursdays in October and November. Once signed up, a member of the Kiwanis Club will be in contact close to the date of the event.
Mowing and Yardwork. Join community members for a one-day blitz of doing fall yardwork. You may sign up for this activity as an individual or gather a group of friends, classmates or teammates to sign up together. The date of the project is expected to happen on a Saturday or Sunday in late October or early November. You will be contacted and your participation will be reconfirmed once the date is known.
Donate Blood. M State Nursing students typically host a blood drive at least once a year. Sign up today sharing your intent to donate during the blood drive.
